The high/low texture of this rug is both visually appealing and like a massage underfoot. You can see how the 10'x14' rug has a grid of 5x7 medallions. I took photos in daylight, warm artificial light, and with a flash so that you can see the colors in the rug. Note that the shag border is slightly greener (more turquoie) than the blue-gray of the raised medallions. The main reason that I took off a star is the quality of the rug. The rug is 100% wool, but the fibers are very short, so the rug sheds. A lot. As in, it filled my vacuum canister 5 times when I first vacuumed it. There is a slight wool smell, but no offensive chemical off-gassing. There were clumps of white plaster in the rug that I was able to scrape out with my fingernails. It would seem that the plaster was meant to slightly fill in wherever the rug is missing a loop of the gold background, but the white clumps are far more ugly and noticeable than a tiny gap in the background pattern. This rug is extremely heavy, especially compared to a typical short-pile rug. The 10'x14' weighs more than 90 pounds. The rug has no structure whatsoever, so it took two strong bodies to lug this giant thing upstairs and into place. The shippers did not seem to care for the weighty lump, either, as they managed to slash a 5-inch gash through the packaging and into the center of the rug. That’s not a problem where I placed it, but it could maybe be a trip hazard for some. I anchored it under the lower end of my bed and thus didn’t need a rug pad. It does have a bit of an odor, which I expect will dissipate. I got a synthetic rug recently in which the odor was much stronger and had more of a chemical smell; this is slight by comparison.. We purchased ours several years ago and it really holds up well as an outdoor carpet.
