It is hand-crafted with pride in India using 100% New Zealand wool, providing the highest level of comfort underfoot. The rug is beautiful, and I love that it is wool. However, the rug had a very strong smell upon delivery, which I can only describe as "wet dog." I read online how to fix this, as I really wanted to keep this rug. I bought baking soda, as suggested, and sprinkled it liberally on to the rug. Three small baking soda containers didn't touch the smell. It took about 8 and a lot of vacuuming and working with it to get rid of 85% of the odor. The rest faded in time on it's own. The other wool rug that we got at the same time from a different maker had no odor at all. Perhaps one had "washed" wool, and the other was treated differently. Now that it has no smell, we really like it and are glad we kept it, but it should have been ready to use upon delivery. It is a quality rug, and the design is beautiful. It is well made.. Barbara.
