I wanted an inexpensive "island" for my kitchen to see if I would like a permanent one. This works. I like that it is solid wood and I like the design. I like the handy towel bar. I had my husband tack up the top shelf so I can pull a stool up to it when I'm working in the kitchen for long periods of time; that works also. The problems: (1) the locking wheels do not works so I'm constantly moving it back into position (2) the knife holder is weird. I thought this was a hinged table-top extension that you could raise when you needed extra space. Turns out it's a block of wood with slots for knives. When you put the knives in the slots, they stick up over the top of the island and that doesn't look nice. Even my husband commented about it not looking nice. This cart is functional, pretty, and exactly what I needed for my kitchen space. Solid wood, easy to put together. The instructions were clear, and easy to follow. It lost one star because I only received one cabinet knob, not two, and had to run to the hardware store to purchase replacements to complete the build. The customer service center was closed for the weekend by the time I realized the error, but regardless I wanted it completed, so off I went. Replacement knobs in hand, the rest of the assembly went smoothly. Getting the top placed correctly was a teensy bit tricky, I do wish there had been some indication as to what was the front or back, but I managed to get it done. This antique black is perfect and the counter top matches the color of our dining room table and some colors in our counter. It took about 1 hour to put together by myself. Glad I waited for this one to exist! Many years ago, I had a kitchen cart and when we had our countertops redone, I had a piece of the granite cut for that particular cart. As the years went on, we replaced the cart with another piece of kitchen furniture and put the piece of granite away. After some renovation to our house, we realized we had room again for a kitchen cart but now my tastes were a little bit more sophisticated and I wanted something that was really beautiful and that would match the aesthetics of the kitchen. It took a while to find this one because I needed two things, this cart had to be very sturdy in order to withstand the weight of the piece of granite, and it needed to be of a size that the granite would overhang, but only a little bit. I am so pleased to say that sometimes I just a glance to admire this cart and how beautiful it is. In preparing this review, I just was reminded that it has drawers! Maybe I’ll use them now that I found them. They open up quite far, which is actually very very nice. The shelves are great, although we haven’t used them yet. I found this very easy to put together and of course I did remove the top that it comes with to place my piece of granite on top.
