These visually match our original Melon Bud pieces from 20 years ago with two differences. The first and more important difference is that original sets were 188, and these are 1810. The second and barely discernible difference is while the length of the knife is the same, it has a very slightly different curvature. No one would ever be able to notice these differences on your table (it’s tough to see even with two knives in hand looking for the difference) and the pieces still feel nice in hand, which was the original appeal. This is a reproduction of V. Zveg's The Battle of the Chesapeake. The Battle of the Chesapeake, also known as the Battle of the Virginia Capes was a crucial naval battle in the American Revolutionary War. September of 1781, Washington had British troops surrounded in a siege at Yorktown. A British fleet from New York led by Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Graves was sent to help Cornwallis. A French fleet led by Rear Admiral Francois Joseph Paul, the Comte de Grasse, got to the Chesapeake first and engaged the British. The battle was won by the French, and prevented the Royal Navy from reinforcing or evacuating the besieged forces of Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, effectively securing independence for the Thirteen Colonies.
