General Horatio Gates is portrayed with a subdued or humbled posture, reflecting the weight of his defeat and the loss of confidence in his leadership. This moment was critical for the Revolutionary War. The Southern Campaign was in disarray after Gates’s failure at Camden, which had nearly destroyed the Southern Army. Greene’s appointment marked a turning point.
