The rich, wood framed classic weather station measures barometric pressure (liquid). The antique weather station displays an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument from Ambient Weather. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half-filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body. Also includes a comfort meter, which measures temperature and humidity, and a comfort zone indicator.

This thermometer is based on a thermoscope invented by Galileo Galilei in the early 1600`s. It`s made from a clear glass 23.5 inch (60 cm) high, 2.25 inch (6 cm) diameter liquid filled, sealed glass tube with a 3.5 inch (9 cm) diameter base, and 11 colored liquid filled floating glass bubbles. A metal tag engraved with varying degrees is attached to each bubble acting as counterweights for temperature readings as the bubbles rise and float with the changing temperatures. The bubble floating in the gap between those at the top and bottom indicates the ambient temperature. It makes a wonderful gift for history buffs, or those that like really cool things, and a fun conversational piece for your own home or office!

This is a great looking thermometer but I had to return this one for the bronze one. This looked like a darker brown in the picture but it’s really a lighter brown with green undertones. I had wanted a comfortmeter for a while. Essentially 2 gauges in 1 with the added bonus of a declared comfort zone in the area where the needles cross. I have a number of new and vintage "ships" barometers and clocks. The brands I tend to buy don't make these. The traditional marine brands are pricey, even used. This brand is new to me. Priced new at less than used ones that I am familiar with the brand. While this is clearly not as heavy duty feeling/looking as the brands I have, it has the look and fits in. The temperature calibration was exactly what my digital gauge stated, I had to adjust the humidity. Quick ship and delivery, as described, new for less than most used ones I saw... Alot to like! Only complaint, FedEx, who has delivered to us here for 20 years, chose to leave package by our garage instead in our enclosed courtyard where a camera alerts us to packages and visitors...
