Pretty happy with it. I bought it in charcoal and up close it looks like plastic (which of course it is), but it’s a great size. The planter area is a little odd. I need to buy some sort of basket that will fit there. I’ve got a rain chain going into it and I have it hooked up to another barrel (for symmetry), even though the other barrel isn’t hooked up to a downspout. At the rain collection area, a screened opening minimizes insect entry into the barrel while filtering debris from incoming water. We are extremely happy with this water cooler. We were renting one through a water company and opted to purchase this one. This water cooler is significantly quieter than the previous one we had (Primo Brand). Whereas it would make a loud noise when when pouring room temperature water this unit makes zero noise. Mind you, we are not using the hot or cold water functionally continuously but only as needed to cut down on our electricity bill. Since our rainbarrels are made of High Density Polyethylene Plastic they can be left outdoors even in the winter months so there is no need to modify your downspouts in the Spring and Fall. The exact shape of the barrels may vary due to availability but the color and size remain true. Because these barrels were originally used to transport food, there may be residual food product odor. The residual odor will disspiate after a few full barrel filling cycles. We use a PH balanced, environmentally friendly soap when cleaning so that the water gathered can immediately be used on plants without harm. These barrels keep difficult to break down plastics from adding bulk to landfills and also contain and repurpose stormwater.
