Well, decided to make my own mantel from milled pine from a friend with his own mill. The brackets were easy to install and look just like the wood I was using, unfinished pine. The result was absolutely beautiful. It is very easy to cut with a manual saw - it was easy to install and nail to the wall - as well as very easy to readjust in case of any errors.
