Niches have been used in homes for almost 2000 years, first made of white marble in Nero's home. Most niches are still white, and for many years were mostly made of plaster. Now that many modern architectural products are made of urethane, custom millwork and details such as recessed niches have become affordable for any home improvement project. Niches are distinctive architectural accents. Often used to display sculptures, vases, clocks, plants and flowers, niches are beautiful and functional details that add value to any home interior. They are often used in main hallways, dining rooms, foyers, and staircases. An important aspect of a niche is its ability to concentrate or disperse light, so its placement should be based on the availability of light, either sunlight or interior lighting fixtures. Ceiling accent lights are often added as a compliment above a niche. Niches made of urethane can be easy to install for anyone, simply cut a hole in the drywall and place the niche inside. These niches will also require little maintenance in the future, and offer beauty and value to your home for decades to come. Ekena Millwork offers niches in varying heights, widths, and depths to fit the scale of your home.

Our appliques and Onlays are the perfect accent pieces for cabinetry, furniture, fireplace mantels, ceilings, and more. Each pattern is carefully crafted after traditional and historical designs. Each polyurethane piece is easily installed, just like wood pieces, with simple glues and finish nails. Another benefit of polyurethane is it will not rot crack, or warp. It comes to your factory primed and ready for your paint, faux finish, gel stain, marbleizing, and more.

Let me preface this by saying I am a carpenter by trade, so maybe my expectations were a little higher than they should have been. I think these cross heads are a great product, but have a few issues. Maybe I got a “dud”, but the thing was warped/bowed like crazy. I had to manipulate the thing for about half an hour, glueing and fastening just to get it to sit somewhat flush and level. The pre-mitered corners had some issues as well. Not a flush cut, So I had to do a bit of work on it. For the price, and the convenience of not having to make it by hand..I’d say go for it! Just be sure you understand some work will have to be done to get it perfect. I also want to mention, I got a set of Pilasters from the same company, and those came out excellent! Highly recommend. Just needed some sanding and painted, but that’s to be expected!. Anonymous. Sat Dec 02 2023

Signature Urethane is a groundbreaking progression in the world of architectural millwork. Molded urethane products have dominated the landscape for their beauty, crisp detail, longevity, and ease of access, but the introduction of specific sizes and styles proved challenging as a new mold would have to be made every time. The introduction of the Signature Urethane line of products takes all of those tried and true benefits of urethane, and frees it from the mold, meaning you have access to sizes and styles, and even fully customized designs, at an unprecedented level. These items are fully made to the order, using a combination of modern building techniques, and good old fashioned hand craftsmanship, to ensure your corbel, bracket, pilaster, pediment, gable vent or any other piece your project requires comes in exactly as you need it.

Designed with today's technology but inspired by centuries-old techniques, our rustic wood millwork features all the natural beauty and character that make each piece one-of-a-kind. Expect variations in color, grain, texture, knots, sapwood, heartwood, and even natural checking or cracks. These imperfections aren't flaws- they're what make the Rustic Collection truly special, offering a genuine, earthy look that adds undeniable character to your home. Break free from cookie-cutter designs and embrace the individuality and warmth that only real, natural wood can offer.
