This briefly deciduous tree reaches 15 to 20 feet in height and has a fairly open canopy. Branching is often sparse allowing turf and other sun loving plants to grow beneath the canopy. The dark green, palmately compound, five-inch-long leaves are joined in late winter or early spring by the showy, trumpet-shaped blooms, appearing in dense, rose-pink to purple, terminal panicles. Trees will have a better form if trained to a single trunk and staked until they are six to eight feet tall, at which time they can be allowed to grow naturally. Its showy, trumpet-shape blooms unfurl in dense, rose-pink to purple clusters. This tree tends to have a shrubby habit when it is young. Train it to a single trunk by removing suckers and staking it while it is young. When it reaches 6-8 feet tall, it can be allowed to grow naturally. Purple Tabebuia should be grown in full sun on almost any well-drained soil but trees respond especially well to rich soil. Established trees are highly drought-tolerant. Need well-drained soil; respond well to regular fertilizing. All are useful as color accents and as stand-alone flowering trees for display. Larger types are excellent as street or park plantings; smaller species make beautiful patio trees or container plants.

It will only suit warm regions, but it's one that can do well in states like Florida. Paddle Plant has typical watering needs for a succulent. It's best to use the soak and dry method, and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. This very hardy, slow growing plant has a central trunk and stiff glossy featherlike leaves that resemble a fine textured palm. An ancient plant that has been around for nearly forever, it thrives in dry areas, is cold tolerant and is suitable for Sun or shade. The plant is not as prickly as other varieties and its eventual small stature of 3 ft. tall and wide is perfect for use as a specimen plant to accent a tropical garden, in mass plantings such as those that surround the trunk of a palm tree, in patio pots set around the pool, to line a walkway or simply near a mailbox. Easy to grow in a wide range of soils, easily adapts to full Sun or full shade, is drought tolerant once established and is cold hardy down to an occasional 30-deg F. Hardy in USDA plant zones 8-11, it is not recommended to grow this plant outdoors in cooler climates. To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 3 ft. away from other plants or structures. Prefers sand y soil, although will grow in most well-drained garden soils; it is not picky about sunlight, growing in full Sun to full shade.

The red veins are in a herringbone pattern, giving rise to another of the plants names, herringbone plant. The Maranta plant is a prostrate evergreen species that rises from rhizomes. It grows 12-15 inches (30-38 cm.) tall. The beautiful foliage is broadly oval and features 5-inch (13 cm.) long olive-green leaves with prominent red midribs and veining in a herringbone design. They like to be kept evenly moist and just barely damp to the touch. Do not let soil get too dry between waterings. Prayer plants need high humidity in order to thrive. Household humidity is likely too low for them. To give your prayer plant the microclimate it likes, group it with other plants or place it on a dish filled with pebbles and water.
