My son loves the idea of this microscope and is always keen to have a look through it but he gets bored quite quickly because, and this may just be a problem with my particular example, the magnification is rather disappointing. In no circumstances is it anything approaching 8x. It seems more like 1.5x - that is, something that is about an inch across will appear under the microscope to be about 1.5 inches. I don't think there's anything I've missed operationally to increase the magnification; it's just rather underwhelming.
