My 12 year old son and I had no problem assembling this in about an hour. I the wood is not as thick/sturdy as I had hoped. I think it will be excellent for our first 4 chickens. We will have it inside. Covered run with a water proof cover so hopefully it will last a little while. The bottom metal tray seems fragile. I hope it can withstand the weight of 4 chickens. We love this dog house. We have a 110 pound German shepherd who prefers being outside. I never grew up with an outdoor dog so I was extremely hesitant to move him full time to our backyard, but this dog house made it an easier choice. He’s super happy and so are we. One thing to note is the installation is very tricky. We thought we could do it ourselves but we ended up paying someone 700 to build it for us. We did have missing pieces to 4 of the latches and had to go buy some. All timber is T&G plained to avoid splintering. This house is designed with a living room for sleeping and a pen downstairs. All joints are mortise and tenon. 4 x Access doors on both levels. I bought this Coop to turn it into a feral cat house with a lot of modifications. I am happy with the results. I insulated it with 1 in foam insulation board, made two levels two escape doors in an entrance. I screened all the windows and added all the plastic to the front so that I can roll it down when the weather gets cold and tack it to the frame to help keep them warm I put linoleum on the floor and added two heated dog pads. I painted the whole thing as there was no way this would be waterproof without it. I added tinted plastic corrugated roofing to cover the existing roof to protect it and also to make that more waterproof. If making modifications be careful cutting the boards because they are only attached at the edges of the frame. It took me a month to complete this but I am very happy with it.
