I was looking for something not too tall that would provide good horizontal cube storage and this completely fit the bill. The parts were all well-labeled and the instructions were very clear, making it a breeze to assemble. I took 1 star off the rating for 3 issues: (1) many of the part labels are on the front side so that the sticker has to be removed, however it's very difficult to remove and leaves some residue. (2) The finish is a bit fragile and chipped a few times around the holes when inserting screws. And (3) overall the bookcase is pretty flimsy. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is particle board with a sort of paper veneer, almost like Contac paper. This is a pretty darn nice, sturdy bookcase which isn't cheap plywood and that's a pleasant surprise at this price point. It fits perfectly between my computer desk and file cabinet where I needed shelfs for reference books. I deducted one star because of a few issues. Maybe I should have deducted two! It took me a little over an hour to put it together myself, mostly because the pictograph instructions aren't the best so I took my time and studied it, then went back to the website to download one of three other PDF instructions that seemed a little easier to follow. Instructions state to screw shelves and braces to both sides of the bookcase and then place the top piece. I've put together pieces with shelves before and I always find that it's easier to screw all pieces into one side, then flip it and attach the other side. Two of the holes were not drilled properly, making it difficult to get the side screws in and one of the shelves wasn't finished properly, having a weird tacky area where it appears the black paint was missed and something sticky was left. At some point, I'll have to give it a light sanding and repaint that shelf, but I don't have time for that nonsense today. Also, the instructions don't tell you that you'll need a rubber mallet to tap in the little plugs that cover the screws, but you will definitely need one to get them seated in properly.. Gloria. This is sturdy and not too complicated to put together. It's particle board but thick enough to be sturdy. The pieces have stickers on them to indicate how to put it together. I really like this bookcase. If fits perfectly in the space I had for it in my office. It’s very well made and heavy duty. I’ve never had anything made out of rubber wood before when I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It has a very prominent grain similar to oak. I purchased the 3-shelf size, 36" H X 48" wide. It holds my entire cookbook collection and does double duty as a divider between the foyer and kitchen/dining area. Beautiful, heavy wood in the mission style. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the backing. I wish furniture manufacturers would stop to consider that not every piece of furniture is going to be put against a wall, so it would be nice to have a decent backing. The back of this bookcase is some sort of shiny, vinyl covered panel and the color is awful. Maybe it was meant to be faux marble, but they missed by a mile. Came beautifully packaged! No dings. The color is slightly more orangey than I wanted but I’m okay with that. I love that there is no assembly, and the wood is fairly good quality for the price. Just two negatives - I wish I could remove the nubs (that join the units together) on the top unit, and the company sticker on the unit was a bear to get off - I don’t know why companies put them on the unit like that! A least make them easier to remove. Took me 25 minutes with goo be gone to scrape it off. I left the bottom one on that can’t be seen bc I don’t feel like scraping another one off!. Lisa. US.
