This tarp works great to filter our hot and very bright Arizona sun. We have to very large German Shepards dogs that have a huge pen where they like to relax and play during the day. Half of their pen is shaded with heavy duty tarp. During the hot sunny days they lose half their space. We installed tis tarp on the other half and it works great as an additional shaded area for our furry kids. It really does cut down te heat considerably. This tarp will work for just about any area you want shaded. I wish all our 5 acres were covered in this material. I'm pretty pleased with this shade. It's plenty big enough to provide lots more shade to my yard. I had kind of hoped that even at 70%, it would be a little tighter weave to block a little more light, but i think the dark color helps to block more light, and it seems to absorb some of the heat from the sun, too, so it doesn't get as warm as some others might. My only concern is that with the dark color absorbing more light that it might not last as long due to possibly becoming more brittle faster. Time will tell, but for now, a big help in the summer.. I had one I purchased elsewhere and it was fabric ivy leaves that were quite worn. I use to block my front porch to deter porch pirates (when delivery people put things near the door). [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The sails were put up with a team effort in our front yard deck area. A few days after they were up, we had rain and quickly learned our errors. We had so much pooling on top which showed that they are fully waterproof. I waited about a month, then placed a second order for our backyard sails. I love having the choice of so many colors..
