When not in use it is flush with the stovetop which helps create a flat seamless flow on the countertop. When we have used it, it works very well. I love this induction cooktop!! It has many features that my old induction cooktop did NOT have. I price shopped for this exact model and Wayfair had the best price so I also saved a good bit of money. Although if you order from Wayfair the installation is NOT part of the price.
