This allows buckets to be filled but leaves about a quarter of the water standing behind, which can be hazardous. We installed this rain barrel today, just in time for a major storm, which gave us the perfect opportunity to see how it performed in real-world conditions. Initially, we noticed water overflowing from the top of the barrel. After some troubleshooting, we discovered that the mesh liner included with the unit was not allowing water to flow through properly. Once we removed the mesh liner, the rain barrel worked exactly as expected and handled the rainfall without issue. The barrel itself looks great and blends beautifully with the brick exterior of our home. It has a much more attractive appearance than many of the plastic rain barrels we’ve seen. Our only concern is that without the included mesh liner, we’ll need to find an alternative solution to keep insects, mosquitoes, and small animals out while still allowing water to flow freely into the barrel. It would be helpful if the manufacturer offered a more effective screening solution that doesn’t restrict water flow during heavier rain events. Since we just installed the rain barrel, we have not yet had the opportunity to test the spigot and hose connection to see how well water flows out for watering plants and gardens. If those components perform as expected, we’ll be very pleased with the overall product. Overall, we’re very happy with the appearance and functionality of the rain barrel, but the included mesh liner may need to be redesigned or improved to prevent overflow issues during heavier rain.. These rain barrels are repurposed from pre-used imported food barrels. There may be slight scratching or scuffs due to previous overseas transportation. Since our rain barrels are made of High-Density Polyethylene Plastic they can be left outdoors even in the winter months so there is no need to modify your downspouts in the Spring and Fall. The exact shape of the barrels may vary due to availability but the color and size remain true. Because these barrels were originally used to transport food, there may be residual food product odor. The residual odor will dissipate after a few full barrel filling cycles. We use a PH-balanced, environmentally friendly soap when cleaning so that the water gathered can immediately be used on plants without harm. These barrels keep difficult to break down plastics from adding bulk to landfills and also contain and repurpose stormwater.

I like the look of the barrel. A bit rustic in surface texture, but elegant too, in the shapely design. Our 55-gallon gray barrels are a great “neutral” color that looks nice with the green plants and trees in your garden. They hide well behind deciduous trees and bushes, and won’t clash with any color house. Heavy-duty screening keeps mosquitoes out. Our rain barrels are uniquely designed with plastic fittings that match the rate of expansion and contraction of barrel plastic from season to season to avoid leakage. These rain barrels are repurposed from pre-used overseas food barrels. There may be slight scratching or scuffs due to previous overseas transportation. Since our rain barrels are made of high-density polyethylene plastic they can be left outdoors even in the winter months so there is no need to modify your downspouts in the spring and fall. The exact shape of the barrels may vary due to availability but the color and size remain true. Because these barrels were originally used to transport food, there may be residual food product odor. The residual odor will dissipate after a few full barrel-filling cycles. We use a ph-balanced, environmentally friendly soap when cleaning so that the water gathered can immediately be used on plants without harm. These barrels keep difficult to break down plastics from adding bulk to landfills and also contain and repurpose stormwater.

Arrived in great condition, simple set up. Seems well made. You don't need to be extremely precise on gutter orientation. We have about a 24" gap from open down spout to the barrel opening. Before we had a chance to correct that it rained and it filled just fine. Ordering a second one to link together using a short length of flexible garden hose with female fittings on both ends.
