There are two doors, one on top and one in front. The front door works both ways, the top door opens outwards. I did have to make sure the cover was snapped together properly so the front door didn't catch. The front is hinged to lift up further if needed for cleaning. I really appreciate the slots in the front of the box to catch litter back into the pan. It works well in conjunction with the stool to help prevent litter being scattered on the floor. I also like the scent absorber in the top. The holder for it will accommodate other scent absorbers when it needs to be replaced. It also comes with a stainless steel scoop that can be conveniently hung on the side of the pan. You do have to put it together when it comes in. Instructions are included. They are easy enough to understand and assembly is pretty straightforward. The cover is two parts that snap together with plastic tabs. Then the cover goes on the stainless steel pan and snaps on with side latches. You can undo the latches to take the top off if needed. Unfortunately although it basically fits our needs, it is difficult to clean. Our 11 yr old cat ends up peeing along the inside walls. Due to the design the urine accumulates in the various crevices, then leaks all over underneath as the bottom, under the slide out box is all open. I have to clean up everything 2-3 x's a day by removing the try, using a lit of paper towels, tilting each direction to get the urine out, and scrubbing the floor. Pretty good product to be honest! The only thing I would change is that the doors would be magnetized with the outside lock rather than the smaller locks in the inside making it difficult to clean out the litter box if you have limited movement in your hands. My hands cramp very easily but that’s on me. I should have done more research on this but all in all, not that bad. Nice and spacious for an extra large litter box and a nice shelf. The enclosed litter box with removable steel drawer for easy cleaning works perfectly! It was simple to assemble with the plastic top fitting snugly in the steel bottom. Keep the hard plastic kitty door at at slight angle to insert it in the holes & be sure the tabs are on the inside so your cat enter the box.
