This ended up being perfect for the space and a good deal for the price. Comes in two heavy boxes, but I had a hand truck to move them from the sidewalk to the kitchen, so I could by manage myself. I also put it together by myself, and it took a hot minute (multiple hours....hard to measure because I took mental breaks), but it wasn't hard. The pieces were all there, it wasn't confusing, just predictably tedious. Worth every second to gain the extra drawers and cabinet space. If i had a complaint, it's the the backside looks like exactly what it is (just the cheap panel), but it's no different than pictured plus it's where the barstools go anyway if you're worried about it. Nice sturdy (enough) island with enough storage to hold my KitchenAid Stand Mixer (14-cup; 6 gallon). The drop leaf is held up by locking arm in the middle of the leaf. The locking arm is sturdy and won’t collapse under pressure (you have to reach under the leaf and push in on the locking arm to get it to collapse). However, the edges of the drop leaf aren’t supported. So it’ll hold a bit of weight at the edges (plates, glasses) but I don’t think a person can rest their elbows and lean on it. Overall, the was an excellent option for my space. Saved me money (custom island would’ve been thousands of dollars). Arrived pretty quickly (no damage) and was pretty easy to assemble (though not quick). Locking wheels do hold the unit in place (unless you really push on it or try to lean upon it).. Kerry. My advice on putting this together: use a screwdriver with a longer handle to give yourself more power; use wood glue on both ends of every dowel to give the joint more stability (make sure it dries clear); accept that some of the screws are going to strip (usually the tiniest ones) and have match sticks available. I took my time and it wasn’t too difficult. The pictures in the directions definitely suck and you’ll need four hands occasionally, so it helps to have a 2nd person there. I love the color and the functionality! Just what I needed for a small kitchen with just 1 drawer. I think I have unrealistic expectations of products shipped and put together at home. The door had scraping marks in more that 1 spot and one of the drawers had a damaged knob. With those exceptions it is a really good value for the money. If you can pay to have it assembled.
