The flapjack succulent (Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora) is also known as a paddle plant because of the paddle or clam-like shape of its leaves that form in rosette clusters. It's a striking house plant that doesn't require a lot of maintenance. In the right conditions, this drought-resistant plant can also be grown outside. It will only suit warm regions, but it's one that can do well in states like Florida. Paddle Plant has typical watering needs for a succulent. It's best to use the soak and dry method, and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Kalanchoe luciae is not cold hardy, so if you live in a zone that gets colder than 20 F (-6.7 C), it's best to plant this succulent in a container that can be brought indoors. It does well in full to partial sun. Like all succulents, your flapjacks need at least six hours of sunlight per day. For this one, bright, direct sunlight in the mornings works best since the Flapjacks leaves are quite delicate and can burn easily under the hot afternoon sun.

The Pencil Cactus (Euphorbia tirucalli) also commonly called milk bush due to its thick, white sap is native to semi-arid tropical regions of Africa and India. This very hardy, slow growing plant has a central trunk and stiff glossy featherlike leaves that resemble a fine textured palm. An ancient plant that has been around for nearly forever, it thrives in dry areas, is cold tolerant and is suitable for Sun or shade. The plant is not as prickly as other varieties and its eventual small stature of 3 ft. tall and wide is perfect for use as a specimen plant to accent a tropical garden, in mass plantings such as those that surround the trunk of a palm tree, in patio pots set around the pool, to line a walkway or simply near a mailbox. Easy to grow in a wide range of soils, easily adapts to full Sun or full shade, is drought tolerant once established and is cold hardy down to an occasional 30-deg F. Hardy in USDA plant zones 8-11, it is not recommended to grow this plant outdoors in cooler climates. To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 3 ft. away from other plants or structures. Prefers sand y soil, although will grow in most well-drained garden soils; it is not picky about sunlight, growing in full Sun to full shade.
