I wanted an 'Age In Place' bathroom but didn't want it to look like an institution. This grab bar is lovely as well as functional. We made sure to reinforce behind the wall before installation and placed one horizontally 36" above the floor (per ADA guidelines) and another one vertically at the shower entrance. This grab bar is perfect for my basement bathroom that my 91 year old father uses. We just had our handyman install it and it’s sturdy and secure for him. He now feels safer taking his shower. It was longer than I anticipated and my handyman had to add additional blocks to the studs in order to install the bar. Luckily the backside of the shower is unfinished in the utility room so access was easy. The finish is beautiful and it was quite heavy, so I think it will hold up for quite some time.
