I had he perfect place for it on a tree branch facing the front gate. But then I remembered that many people in my region view an awl as a harbinger of death. Didn't want to frighten anyone. So .. Where to put it in the house. I put it on a wall - but it needed something, something to perch on. So I placed an antique Dutch Atlas clock to use as a perch. I like it this way.
