Very sturdy!! And well made. Look for screws outside of the interior box as our box was open and the screw package fell out as we opened the bigger box but did find it eventually while clearing up the packaging! I really love this piece as it is better than the 1st 'craft center' (that is how I use it) I purchased a few years ago which was ruined by a flood in our basement (no fault of Wayfair of course)! It has more style with the sliding drawers, costs a lot less, but did not come with a separate file cabinet like the 1st, but do not need it as this one has 2 file drawers. And the best part, is it has a electric recepitcal on the top of the desk for a lamp or another appliance if needed. And it fits in my ensuite walk-in closet (which is my little craft room). Cute desk. Took several hours to assemble. I wish the instruction would have descriptions rather than just pictures. Don't use power tools. The hardest part to follow was the railings for the drawers, I got some of them backwards and had to fix when I got to the drawer assembly. I’m extremely happy with this desk. The wood top is exceptionally nice and I did purchase an inexpensive faux leather blotter to protect it from my scribbles—it’s quite handsome and I don’t want to ruin it in a clumsy moment. Good quality for the price. It did take 4-5 hours to assemble as others said in their reviews, but it went together perfectly and is solid. The factory workers did an exceptional job of packing and labeling everything. It does need to be placed against a wall rather than having the back face the room. The large “file drawer” is not sized like a file cabinet would be (smaller) but file folders will fit. It’s a small-ish desk…not an “executive desk,” but for me it has plenty of storage and I especially like having the two-shelf cabinet at bottom left. They are beautiful, substantial, have tons of storage, and feel very sturdy. The white finish with the darker wood top looks even better in person. Fair warning though assembly is a PROJECT. The first desk took us about 5 hours, and even knowing exactly what we were doing, the second still took about 4 hours. I would absolutely recommend having two people, plenty of space, and a whole lot of patience. That being said, the instruction manual was surprisingly clear and helpful. There are simply a LOT of pieces and steps involved. Once assembled, though Worth it. They look like much more expensive pieces of furniture and completely transformed our homeschool room. I especially love all of the drawers, cabinets, shelving, and built-in desktop outlets. If you’re willing to survive the assembly process, I highly recommend them. This desk arrived on time and was delivered to my top door step. The box weighed just over 100 lbs so I used a dolly to carry it upstairs to my office. It was a workout but I managed unassisted. It took about 20 minutes to unboxed and organize all of the pieces. Everything was clearly labeled, but there are just so many parts. Instructions were clear and easy enough to follow. Clear enough that I had to backtrack once but never had to disassemble anything. I accidentally got lucky doing one step correctly the first time when went back to check again. All of the tools you'll need are included, but the screwdriver is not too comfortable. I swapped it out for one of my own screwdrivers because the one included really hurt when I tightened screwed. There were a few extra screws included in case you dropped one so don't panic when you have one of every piece leftover. In the end, it took about 2.5 hours of build time on top of the 20 minutes unboxing and 10 more to clean up at the end. I did this myself without power tools. I'm not sure why some "handy" people needed 6 hours. As for the color, it is black. I was worried because one review mentioned it having a brown tone to it. It is solid particle board with black, wood grain laminate on the outside. I have it in my office with other black furniture and black picture frames. It matches everything perfectly. I didn't like the drawer pull handles so I swapped them out with others I found in Wayfair when I swapped out handles on another desk. This way everything matches. It's a solid build as far as particle board goes. The drawers have a flimsy bottom so don't overload them. The keyboard drawer has a wooden bottom and can handle a little more weight. The lock on the file cabinet simply latches on to a small piece of wood that could either be unscrewed after removing the middle drawer or by pulling too hard and snapping that tiny board. I love this desk. I’m writing this review over a year later and it’s still held up well. I work from home and wanted something that looks nice, was functional, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. This desk is perfect. I built it myself (mostly). It was not the easiest and I did cuss a few times, but in a few hours, I had it built.
