The Pencil Cactus (Euphorbia tirucalli) also commonly called milk bush due to its thick, white sap is native to semi-arid tropical regions of Africa and India. In the wild, the Pencil Cactus can grow up to 30 feet tall and well over 6 feet indoors. This stem succulent is not a true cactus and photosynthesizes in its stems, not through the small leaves that appear at the end of its new growth (which are inconsequential to the plants health). The plants have slender, slightly toothed stems without any foliage growth. The name derives from the branches, which are about the diameter of a pencil. When new branches sprout, the end of the branch can be tinted slightly pink and tiny leaves may appear. These leaves will disappear once the branch matures. The pencil cactus needs high levels of light and moderately low moisture. It is an excellent houseplant and provides an interesting silhouette.

This pencil cactus arrived very stressed out with a lot of weird yellow growth and Sapir dehydrated it is alive, but I’m going to have to repot it immediately and the potting soil is like cement so yes I got a life planned, but it’s going to have to go into hospice for a while. The Bougainvillea variety Barbara Karst is a marriage of toughness and beauty. Not only does Barbara Karst handle desert heat well, it has been noted as hardy down to 25F. From spring, all the way through summer, the relatively inconspicuous blossoms of Barbara Karst are surrounded by bracts of such a bright magenta-red color that they almost look unreal, though in light shade the bracts will take on a more earthly violet cast. Plant in full sun to bring out the bright color of the bracts, if planted in more shade the color will dull to a reddish-blue. It requires very little irrigation along the coast once established.

I received my faux cactus in a well packaged heavy cardboard shipping box. This faux plant has 3 pretty real looking cacti pieces in 3 different sizes. My tallest is 29.25” high, medium sized one is 23.75 high & shortest piece is18.5” high .. They are made of a soft, yet firm plastic material with soft spines,(the spiky part on real cacti) which look descent & no pain! The color is nicely varied, making it more realistic. I am pleased with the plant/pot which is in a nice grey plastic .. which if wanting, you can stick whole pot base into another base, which is very doable. The pot is not tapered ..same width from top/bottom. My pot is 8.5” tall & 8.5” round.. not the 10.63 or 11.02” stated in specification part of description. I give the plant/ five stars & four stars not because of the plant/pot itself but because of the confusion of its descriptions. It doesn’t matter to me, though it would have been nice if it was taller but where I put it doesn’t matter. How it is defined under description states a generous 39” tall.. that is pot & plant together. Under specifications it has two different measurements: ~ base= 41.14'' H X 11.02'' W X 11.02'' D ~ overall= 40.16'' H X 10.63'' W X 10.63'' D My plant… the pot/plant together ended up being 37.5” high to the top of tallest plant part to base of pot & the pot part is 8.5” high & 8.5” round.
