At first I was concerned that it wouldn't be bright enough but even on the lowest of 5 easily select-able settings this is by far brighter than the carriage style light I replaced. The unexpected side effect is that with the down AND up lighting it enhanced the underside of my front porch as an architectural feature that had been easily overlooked. The only downside is that I like the up and down lighting effect so much that Ive ordered another identical light but now have another DIY project to route new wiring up through the attic over to the other end of my now-prominent front porch to double the visual impact to the front of my home..
