We needed a tall but relatively slim bookcase. This fit the bill. Let me tell you a couple hints. Basically this is 3 units all screwed together. It works great and it makes assembly really easy. The directions to assemble show that you can construct this with some of the shelves offset from one another. It actually looks pretty nice and if I had a bit wider space I might have tried it. Note, this took quite some time for my spouse and I to put together and in the future I'd just hired Taskrabbit for 50 bucks to do it. I'll say, putting this together myself was a TO DO -- it took several hours for me, but got it done and I love the way it looks. The modular build makes it very easy to make changes if you want to how you put it together ... the metal and the shelves feel solid. It's the perfect size for my room. I am happy with this Solid Wood Ladder Shelf. I ordered it in the light wood finish, and it looks even better in person. Once everything was put together, I was impressed with how sturdy it felt, I wasn’t sure if it would be or not and it was very sturdy. One feature I especially love is that each shelf has a raised lip around three sides. It's a small detail that makes a big difference because it helps keep everything from sliding off the shelves. I don't have to worry about picture frames or small decorations getting bumped off the edge, and it gives the shelf a more refined look. I am extremely impressed with this bookcase. The quality is amazing, and once assembled, it feels very sturdy and substantial. The finish and details are beautiful and give it a much more expensive, high-end appearance than I expected. Assembly was about a medium difficulty level, it definitely takes some time and attention, but the finished product is absolutely worth the effort. What I love most is how upscale it makes the entire room look. With the height, cabinetry, shelving, and ladder, it has the appearance of a custom built-in bookcase rather than a piece of freestanding furniture. It completely transformed my space.
