This is a really elegant set of high-quality dishes. Creamy white with a brilliant sheen and weighty enough to feel substantial. They're beautiful to look at and to touch. Artesano plates sport only a miter cut edge, which makes the edge both wider and more interesting than a rounded edge. It also makes the plates look heavier than they actually are. The rice bowls are 1/4" thick, matching the plate edge and are perfectly plain. The pasta bowl is slightly thinner and has the same mitered edge. Like a diamond solitaire, this design is absolutely beautiful in its simplicity. TWO YEARS LATER: Still love the dishes, and they remain in perfect condition. Excellent purchase. Why did I choose this? I had bought accent pieces of hand-painted Polish pottery and needed basic service that would complement it, not compete. I couldn't find cream colored pottery that did what I needed, and so I went with porcelain, though the two don't normally pair. I had purchased an 8-inch GreenPan from Wayfair previously. I recently fried tofu in that pan. Frying tofu in a stainless steel or cast iron pan was difficult because the tofu sticks too much. It was easy in the GreenPan, and cleanup was no problem. I decided I needed a bigger GreenPan. The price for the 10-inch and 12-inch set was a bargain - just $20 more than the 12-inch pan along. We have a gas range, which seems to heat up most handles and utensils. With the GreenPan, the handle stays relatively cool. Great pots and pans for the price never know what to buy anymore but this set I have purchased several times, they last several years with 4 hungry boys that torture them, dropping them using metal utensils cutting steaks in the pan with a sharp knife and the pans still keep on cooking….end of buying new set every 3-4 years not from the pans failure but from the kids torturing them and even then it’s just a skillet or 2 not the whole set… now we have lots of great pans…use them every day!!!. I just purchased 2 sets of this Caphalon Cookware as gifts for my daughters. I have owned the same set for over 17 years and it is still going strong! Caphalon sells 2 space saver sets (a lower priced version and this set which is almost double the price). The difference is on the handle of each lid. The lower price version has a rubber handle that is not suitable for use in the oven. The lids on this (higher end) set have metal handles and can be used in the oven. Keep that in mind if you are considering the lower priced set as it is not as versatile. I love to cook and this has been my favorite set of cookware ever!
