I assume its necessary for insulation and code compliance, but it would have been helpful to know beforehand that I was dealing with fiberglass when installing so I could take extra safety measures.. I thought the black shades had yellow metal inside, but they are fully black. This actually turned to advantage as they reflect any color light bulb you put inside. This shade was a great replacement for the old, yellow one that broke. It features a soft, bright matte white finish. Although it comes with a cap equipped with two holes for pull chains, only the center chain is functional because the opening is too narrow to use the fan chain—at least for my model of fan.
