The smell is so strong, it will permeate your entire home. To continue with other aspects, some assembly is required, but it not difficult. I actually did not realize these doors required assembling when I first purchased them. Thankfully, they were pretty easy to assemble, you do the frame first and then the pieces slide in together tongue & groove. They are not as thick as normal doors and the pieces rattle a little when you open/close the doors. The only issue I had with them were they were so heavy for me to install myself - I had to hire a contractor to put them up which cost more money than the closets unfortunately!
