The storage space underneath the cushion is only covered by some thin wood slats knit together so I wouldn't trust falling down onto that cushion. I really like this sofa bed overall. It’s the perfect size for two smaller adults to sleep comfortably, and it’s a great option for a small apartment without taking up too much space. The only issue I had is that one of the wheels underneath tends to come loose when pulling the bed out. It seems like that part wasn’t assembled very well. Really happy with this! The corduroy is really nice. There is a difference in the sofa ends/arm rests. make sure to take note of the difference-- one is much skinnier than the other. We really like the detached ottoman feature. The ottoman doesn't fit a ton of things in it but it's a nice feature that there is storage.
