This desk arrived on time and was delivered to my top door step. The box weighed just over 100 lbs so I used a dolly to carry it upstairs to my office. It was a workout but I managed unassisted. It took about 20 minutes to unboxed and organize all of the pieces. Everything was clearly labeled, but there are just so many parts. Instructions were clear and easy enough to follow. Clear enough that I had to backtrack once but never had to disassemble anything. I accidentally got lucky doing one step correctly the first time when went back to check again. All of the tools you'll need are included, but the screwdriver is not too comfortable. I swapped it out for one of my own screwdrivers because the one included really hurt when I tightened screwed. There were a few extra screws included in case you dropped one so don't panic when you have one of every piece leftover. In the end, it took about 2.5 hours of build time on top of the 20 minutes unboxing and 10 more to clean up at the end. I did this myself without power tools. I'm not sure why some "handy" people needed 6 hours. As for the color, it is black. I was worried because one review mentioned it having a brown tone to it. It is solid particle board with black, wood grain laminate on the outside. I have it in my office with other black furniture and black picture frames. It matches everything perfectly. I didn't like the drawer pull handles so I swapped them out with others I found in Wayfair when I swapped out handles on another desk. This way everything matches. It's a solid build as far as particle board goes. The drawers have a flimsy bottom so don't overload them. The keyboard drawer has a wooden bottom and can handle a little more weight. The lock on the file cabinet simply latches on to a small piece of wood that could either be unscrewed after removing the middle drawer or by pulling too hard and snapping that tiny board. There are a couple of things to be aware of: 1) Although easy to do, there are many pieces to assemble, so count on maybe 2-3 hours of time to fully assemble the desk, hutch and all of the drawers. 2) Given the type of coated particle board construction that is used, there were some small blemishes on corners/ends of a few of the pieces.
