We used “Purple” brand memory foam twin mattresses which don’t fit as well as the small futon mattresses in the product photos but they fit, just not a ton of room for tucking in sheets and comforter. We love the climber it was easy for my husband to put together. Very very sturdy we have a one year old and 3 year old. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because when we got it (for Christmas) and we were putting it together there was one section left without the hardware so we couldn’t finish it for Christmas morning.
