I use it to tell if the wind is strong enough to open the gate for. It is around three feet and comes in three pieces. Windmill is gorgeous! I love how it looks, how it entertains my father while he sits outside everyday. Its just gorgeous! The one complaint I have, (and I only took one star off of this review, but I should have only given the review like one star) is that the windmil has no way to anchor it down. We put it together, took it outside and put it where we wanted it, and within five minutes, it had blown o er and snapped the piece off the tail fin. Update to my review. Less than a year later and one spinner won’t spin in the wind at all now though it turns by hand. The other is only spinning on the top. Unfortunately the box arrived with only one pinwheel! It had two stakes but missing the 2nd pinwheel. Hoping Wayfair will refund or send me another one. As for the actual product, the pinwheels are cute but the stakes are a bit janky, with a joint in the middle so they stand a bit crooked. That said, they do the job of being a lawn ornament..
