The shelves are thin and the legs are plastic, which makes for a light-weight item, if that's what you are looking for (I was). The assembly was crazy simple, once we finally received it. (The item rode around on the FedEx truck for 4 days before it was finally delivered.) I would have liked if it came with a way to attach it to the wall (for stability) or attach it to a duplicate shelf. The shelves are particle board, so if you are placing it on top of something and looking up at it (we put them on our shelf in the closet), just know that the underside of each shelf is unfinished..
