This will be great for our feral kitty. We haven't had a chance to check out how the cat likes the inside or how the heating pad works in the cold, but right now, the kitty likes being underneath the deck. The complaints about the dirt is just referencing the granules that come off of the roofing material ... be sure to assemble in a place where you can clean them up easily. Assembly was a bit challenging, for things like attaching the housing unit to the deck ... it's hard to get underneath to drive in the screws and I would recommend drilling holes through the decking first, not much room to maneuver and at this point you can't really turn it on it's side and keep things aligned. I used a short phillips screwdriver to set the screws, then turned it on its side to tighten them. Roof assembly was a bit challenging. there's no real positioning instructions so I used the aggregate on the short side pushed up to the housing part for alignment. Screwing in the roof was also a challenge. After positioning, I marked the hinge screw holes with a pencil, took off the roof pieces (did this one by one), drilled holes (btw, drill larger holes in the door strip flap attachment and other small wood pieces to keep the wood from splitting), put the roof pieces back on, and screwed them in ... not much room to maneuver here either ... I had to rest the unit on my knee to elevate it to screw in the hinges. The last challenge was putting on the roof peak piece, not really clear on the instructions. I turned it positioned it so it laid the flattest ... may not me exact center, but pretty close, then screwed it in ... on side only where the pre-drilled holes are. The roof support pieces you need to position as in the instruction diagram ... the one screw hole/screw acts as a pivot hinge to open and rest the roof part on ... not shown in the diagram. The unit is pretty big, much bigger than I anticipated. No complaints, but be prepared ... you could sublet it to college students. So far, I pleased with the purchase. I have no doubt once they try it out they will love it❤️. It seems to be a fairly sturdy little house and was pretty easy to put together. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It was easy to assemble and it looks nice out of the box. The carpet is very thin though. I suspect it's not going to last a long time once the cats decide to use it but we shall see. This went together ok. The insulation panels, without something to cover them I can see a cat digging at them and tearing them apart. I've had this together and outside for a few months now...cats aren't using it yet but it's holding up in the weather pretty well. I didn't install the hydraulic arm...the directions weren't super clear on that and the tension in the arm was just too much for me to want to deal with. But that's a me problem I reckon.. Mary.
