I wound up replacing those straps with a thin nylon strap with D rings. That way I could pull the strap tight to ensure that the laptop would stay put. The length (5 ft) is perfect for our spot (no cutting!), and the color is also a spot on match for our carpet. We needed this to keep it safe behind our new power lift chair/recliner and the wall.
