This kitchen cart is an extremely useful and smart addition in any kitchen.

We love this cart. Compact design but plenty roomy with nice-sized drawer. Real wood except for fiberboard with veneer for the back panel and drawer bottom, sturdy construction. Predrilled holes lined up perfectly, screws were all included. Instructions were mainly visual with a few tips here and there, mainly regarding adjusting the doors. Other reviewers have complained that the doors don't line up, and they don't until you adjust them, which involves removing the magnets in the front support and removing the top shelf so that the door hinges can be gently teased to an obtuse angle until they rest parallel to the bottom front support bar. When the magnets are replaced, they snug the doors up just perfectly. And the magnets can be moved further in or further out by positioning the screw in one of the two screw positions in the magnet bracket. The wooden screw hole plugs add a nice finished look to the piece. On the con side, the slatted shelves are attractive, but given the choice, I'd have preferred a solid bottom to prevent an insect or mouse from finding its way in. Also, assembly required some skill and in my case, 2 people and a few hours to finish. And finally, a few pieces were labeled, but labeling all of them would have been helpful. Very classy design, heavy and sturdy with eye-catching detail and impressive proportions. This was a significant purchase for my new home, and it looks like it was made just for my kitchen. But I am not $1,500 worth of happy... I would put my happiness rating at about $900. But I paid over $1,500 and I have some issues with this item. Mostly, the paint and overall finish on the legs and frame it not what I expected. The little bare detail spots are very rough and not sanded smooth so they will snag clothing if you brush up against it. And the wood used for the legs is heavy but also can be dented quite easily (which happened during assembly using a hand tool). But the real kicker for me is the paint job... for this much money it just doesn't seem to be "finished." You can scratch it off with a fingernail. With 3 small dogs in my house this is a potential problem. Add to that, the paint was not sealed in any way- and John Boos SELLS a poly coat product! I guess John Boos wants me to spend another $30.... and apply it myself. Which would have been easier before I assembled it. Now that it's put together, it will be a difficult job. Overall pretty simple to put together…. Took me about 1.5 hours, but I put the towel bar and wheels on after the legs since my kitchen is tight on space and wasn’t sure they would work. Smaller hands make assembly a bit easier since some of the connections are in not easily assessable areas. The long and medium bolts are the same length! The Allyn wrench provided is too long, so used a smaller one I had that worked better for me. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. I recently moved into a rental that has an awkward layout for cooking and this solves the problem beautifully. The leaf is just perfect, allowing more space for food prep but with the option to stow it away to keep the walkway open. From the time I opened the box, including organizing and verifying all the parts, it took 3.5 hours to assemble, plus another 20-30 min for final adjustments, removing stickers, and disposing all the packaging. One of the hardware packets was mislabeled. The instructions were mostly clear with a couple confusing spots. At the end one of the drawers wouldn't slide in all the way so I had to adjust the sliders to a different hole than instructed. I didn't need (or like) the bulky spice rack so I filled the holes with nail hole filler. As other reviewers have commented, it is definitely a tip hazard with the leaf open when the cabinets are empty, but once I put heavier stuff inside the whole thing stabilized. I agree the back side (leaf side) of the unit would look nicer with a more finished appearance but it doesn't bother me since it faces away from the entrance. Luckily the delivery person delivered the box right to my door where I could drag it inside - I'm a petite woman and it weighs 100 lbs, so I wouldn't have been able to get it inside otherwise.
