I needed a heavy duty shelf unit to store and organize my ammunition. Bought two units as I wanted six shelves on one and only four on a second for bulkier, but not as heavy, items. The units are very sturdy and easy to assemble. Working alone, it took about 30-40 minutes to assemble, but I also moved two shelves due to my miscalculation. I "de-rated" the individual shelves to about 400 pounds due to adding a sixth shelf, and have a total of about 1,800 pounds on the six shelf unit. The "solid" shelves do sink a bit in the middle until they meet the middle brace, and yes, the load is well distributed. It would be much better if the top of the brace matched the elevation of the edge braces. Overall, I am very happy with the shelves and would recommend them if you need to store heavy loads and need/want a smooth surface v. wire shelving. The empty box is on top as a dust shield.. Tom. I ordered two 30-set ECR4Kids scoop front storage bins in turquoise. I am using them in my school library to hold paperback books as part of dynamic shelving. They fit very well in the fixed shelving that is 10 1/4" deep. The bottom does not overhang the shelves due to the tapered design. The width of the bins holds some sizes of hardcover chapter books but not tomes like Harry Potter. I love them because they are sturdy and the color is bold but pretty. I wanted clear but so did the rest of the world, as everywhere was sold out. The clear are back in stock so I have ordered a bunch. Building this shelf was no joke. Granted, the instructions say 2 people to put it together but I'm one of those independent women. Took me about 2.5 hours alone. The tabs were not easy to fight with to get them in the right position but it's fantastic when it's done. It actually looks nice and not as industrial as I was expecting. I'm using it for linens and things like that so I won't be putting anything super heavy on it. The shelf surfaces are made of compressed cardboard or something like that so I wouldn't trust it with anything really heavy. I absolutely love sterilite's products, especially the plastic storage bin totes, because not only is the quality great, but the sizes they come in and all the wonderful room you have to store your things in there is amazing! The only small thing I wish that could change about these products is the variety of colors they come in. Now I don't know how many people, besides me ha, care much about what the bins look like, especially color, just that they do what they were designed to do and are made with quality, but I'm sure there's got to be some. I mean I really loved the Halloween and Christmas themed ones, as I know many others did too, so I think maybe, if you introduced some new colors or themes, maybe say some pastel easter/spring themed ones, they, and possibly many others, would love the new colors just as much!
