This is a beautiful tile. I shopped for a glossy white ceiling tile and comparable tiles were $1-$2 more per square foot. This is a flat tile and does NOT have a beveled edge. I placed mine directly over the cheaper acoustical tiles and they look great. I rated them 4 stars because of the packaging. They were delivered piled on a pallet and wrapped with clear plastic with the result being scratched tiles. I'm probably the only person that notices the scratches but when you are paying $2.99 per square foot you want a perfect tile. These were exactly what our dated basement ceiling needed. Our space looks amazing and so fresh now! We painted our existing ceiling grid and then installed the new tiles in black. Overall, the tiles showed up in good condition. Some corners where a little damaged, but you just pick out the good ones for full tiles and use the damaged ones for the edges, where you have to cut them. A few tips from our experience: - Open all tiles and sort by the good full tiles and the slightly damaged ones for the cut pile. - Wear gloves when handling. the black will come off on your hands (washes off), but your skin oils may leave marks on the tiles so best to wear gloves. - I tried wiping tiles off with a damp clothe but it left subtle marks, so I would NOT suggest this. I would suggest using dry cloth first to clear off dust marks. I have not done it yet, but I plan to get paint to match and do some touch up. I started hanging these tiles from the center of the room and hang more than half up before realizing they were not straight. I took them down and removed all the adhesive by hand before hanging them back up. Make sure to draw chalk lines to get proper alignment. Also, I used a 3.5 gallons of FRP adhesive called TITEBOND FAST GRAB FRP to adhere to ceiling. This adhesive kept the tile from sagging unlike liquid nails.
