It is laminated and not solid wood which would have gotten it a 5 star. I ordered two (one for each side of the bed) but one arrived damaged, alas. I love these night stands. They come with a lot of the hardware being built internally and you just have to connect some pieces together and then a 14 turn of an allen wrench locks them together. It’s so cool. They are gorgeous! I picked Acorn and the bed I also got from Wayfair was in chestnut and I think they go great together. Also all the drawer tracks being pre installed was fantastic. I liked this nightstand. The finish is smooth, I like the color. The open shelf and 2 drawers is perfect for display and storage. The drawers are difficult to pull out (pulls on the entire nightstand), but the drawers are soft close. The difficulty in pulling out the drawers is the reason for the 4 stars (instead of 5).
