This cat tree is sturdy! It was easy to assemble, besides initially lining up the base to the first post. I used the included wrench to "poke through" the holes to help line them up. It is a beautiful kitty tree. It is indeed not 'paded' at the top (besides rim), but seems soft enough for my kitty. My cat is too big to get on by himself (not as much space between basket bed and top of tree), but he doesn't mind, and spends hours on it after I place him there, lol. Dont get me wrong, it has been incredibly well packaged and good instructions, it just feels like they could have done better with the pieces and build (Pieces are most friction fit - apologize to your neighbors in advance for all the hammering youll do). The trim pieces just look a little bit too printed on and not as nice as on the photos (could have at least matched to wood color better). Additionally, there is quite a bit of noise come from the shelves when the cats move up and down. I think that may be unavoidable because of how open the cat bedrooms are. This is a great product at a good price. It is not for large cats which is exactly why I purchased it. I do have large cats but I also have average sized cats (10 pounds) they like to curl up inside the bottom while another cat sits on top and plays king. I liked it so much I bought a second one!
