I purchased a 10 foot and an 8‘ x 10 pergola. We put them side-by-side and we have created a beautiful area which will be a setting area and a hot tub area. One year ago I bought a cheaper pergola from another company; it had the nylon roof you pull back with a cord, no side screens available. The roof was flimsy and noisy whenever there was a breeze, and if you forgot to close it tight before a rain, the weight of the water was going to tear it . It actually wasn’t 10x10 as advertised, maybe 9x9, and the sun came under the east & west sides, no you were seldom shielded from the sun. So I tried Wayfair after noticing my neighbor’s, got the same one only I ordered the pulldown screens for 2 sides. It also has a louvered metal roof ( huge improvement), we love it! It is very nice and more sturdy that I thought it would be. We didn’t bolt it to the deck because we didn’t want to drill into Trex. But we did bolt it to the house which worked good. The instructions are a little confusing in some parts because the pictures are tiny. And after I sliced my finger pretty good on the metal roof, I understood why they give you gloves. Razor sharp. We love how high the ceiling is on this, it doesn’t block our view of the water from the house. We have a house on a lake and we looked at a lot of pergolas after another shade tent blew away during a storm this spring. We wanted something heavy and this is it! We needed three people to put up the four corner posts and top rails, and we could have used four people. Putting up the initial frame is not a two person job. However, once it gets to the point of needing to put the slats in, one or two people can easily do it. It just takes longer than expected since each slat is screwed in on both ends individually. It looks great, the two roof sides can adjust independently for open and close and the handle is easy to operate. We didn’t get the side curtains, but there’s always a shady section for us to sit as the sun moves around. It’s waterproof in the rain and when the sun goes down we open the slats so we can look up at the sky and stars. We have six armchairs under this and it’s great not having to cover them up each night. The rain doesn’t touch them. This is heavy enough that we have not needed to anchor it but may before winter, since we plan to leave it our year round. Everyone who sees this asks where to get it. I had installers handle the installation and other than some challenges with drilling it into my cement pad, it seemed to go fine. It certainly looks nice, however, there is no way to affix mosquito netting/screen to it due to the width/square shape of the rim around the top edge. I ordered two of these and placed them sideways so that I could have a 16 wide and 24 feet long covered area. It definitely took four people about four hours to put up the first one but second one went a lot smoother after figuring out all the louvers. I’ve had it up for about a month so far with some pretty strong winds and so far so good. We did have a decent rain and it kept everything dry when I closed the louvers but then we had a torrential rain and it was just way too much for the small areas to hold so it definitely leaked in a few spots. Love gazebo. The instructions are confusing. It’s not easy to put on the upper sections. The upper areas are very difficult to reach if not on mounting on the ground. This pergola is a modern addition that looks sharp attached to my old house. I would have given it five stars. However, it required three professionals and took them four hours to install. So…I was super excited to get this - and I do love the amount of shade it provides outside of our unit behind our home. Initially, we put it up against our house, but it’s not an exact fit for our back deck, so we moved it to the extended portion of our lot, where we have a couple of buildings; I like it much better out there. My husband put it together, and did say that it is labor intensive, and even more so if you jump in without reading the instructions first - so he highly recommended reading the instructions before getting started. Also; you definitely want to secure it to a building or something - it is heavy enough, but probably not so heavy that a hard windstorm might not send it packing. We have ours mounted, so no worries.
