I was extremely pleased with these storage containers! I bought them in a pinch after impulsively purchasing four 25lb bags of different types of fresh milled flours. When I received the flours, I panicked when I saw on the bags that they needed to be kept refrigerated (or stored in freezer). Thankfully, I have a deep freezer that would allow for appropriate storage; however, I was at wits end on how to store them in a manner that I could also use it easily. I was looking for material other than plastic, since microplastics are so damaging. With glass not an ideal material for large freezer storage, I was in hunt of a stainless option. Thankfully, I found these beauties! They four fit perfectly along the bottom of the deep freezer without interfering at all with the 2 levels of freezer baskets above them. I was also pleasantly surprised that 98% of the 25lb bags fit perfectly in one container. I somehow thought it would be way less (my math/metric conversion skills are lacking;-). Anyway, I’m absolutely thrilled & when & if the time comes I no longer need these for flour, they will easily store water in case of an emergency. Btw, be sure to clean them out prior to use. Be aware that the title says 5 liters, but the true SOUP CONTAINER capacity is 3.8 liters. This container is very cute and the recessed handles make it very easy to carry when full. I tested the heat retention using PLAIN WATER...I boiled 3.8 liters of water to the 212 degree boiling point and poured the hot water into the container. I secured the lid. After 3 hrs, I opened the lid for the first time and the water temp dropped from 212 to 174 (an avg of 12 degrees per hour). (For me, 175 is the perfect water temp for tea and coffee.) For the next 5 hours, I checked the temp every hour and each time, the temp dropped by only 5 degrees. So, the water temp dropped an avg of 12 deg per hour in the 1st 3 hours, but only 5 deg per hour thereafter! Apparently, the reason the water cooled much faster in the early hours compared to the later hours is due to "Newton's Law of Cooling." Anyhow, during the course of the 8 hr test (where I only removed the lid to check the temp), the temp dropped from 212 to 148, so the container does a GREAT job of holding the heat. Here are my results for broccoli cheese soup. I filled the container to the near the top with boiling broccoli cheese soup (boiling point was 199 degrees). I didn't open the lid until 5 hours later and the creamy soup was at about 160 degrees, which was a perfect temperature for soup!. Danielle. Tue Jan 27 2026
