Yes it’s styrofoam, but that makes it super easy to install IF you actually read the directions and use the correct adhesive. You can paint is using standard latex wall paint if you’re careful it’ll look amazing. Very easy to cut very easy to install. I painted mine first then over rolled and caulked the seams after I installed a few. If you get the 3d ones I would get an air sprayer and put 2 coats of paint on then install caulk and paint the seams. As with anything if you want good results read the directions first look up the videos and take your time. My range hood was installed yesterday. I did a lot of research of this brand and another popular luxury brand. This was the brand that I chose. The installer had been a Chef at one time. We were both impressed how everything was packed. Everything was in tip top shape. Then the installer was aware of quality restaurant equipment. He said this hood and extension impressed him.
