Yes it’s styrofoam, but that makes it super easy to install IF you actually read the directions and use the correct adhesive. You can paint is using standard latex wall paint if you’re careful it’ll look amazing. Very easy to cut very easy to install. I painted mine first then over rolled and caulked the seams after I installed a few. If you get the 3d ones I would get an air sprayer and put 2 coats of paint on then install caulk and paint the seams. As with anything if you want good results read the directions first look up the videos and take your time. These glue up tiles were the perfect solution for my attached one car garage that had a really bad unpainted drywall ceiling for the past 45 years. Snapping a few chalk lines made installation quick and easy. Because the ceiling was so uneven in spots a few of my lines got wonky but I was able to compensate by slightly adjusting a few tiles as I go. Absolutely stunning! Painted the plane styrofoam tiles with acrylic metallic paint, then antique with black acrylic paint. Used an instant grab glue to put tiles up. Simple, easy process. I am finishing putting these tiles up. Painted them prior to installation with metallic acrylic paint, two coats. Antiqued them with black acrylic paint. The result is stunning and looks amazingly like old copper. I spend a lot of time just laying on the floor looking up. For anyone thinking that styrofoam is not going to look beautiful, they are mistaken. The tiles I ordered for my bedroom arrived today, looking forward to putting them up as well.. Jo.
