The outdoor clock-thermometer arrived in good condition as scheduled. The instructions are confusing. The instructions indicate that the clock's hands need to be removed and replaced to remove and discard a packaging/security part. This was apparently done at the factory. The clock is keeping good time without any "assembly." The instructions about initializing the thermometer are not clear, but turning the knob on the back seems to perform the necessary function. The item is attractive and functions well so far. We are disappointed that the numbers are about the same color as the face. If they were a different color (like the hands) it would be easier to see the time. The scale on the thermometer is compact, and the numbers are the same color as the face. So, it is difficult to tell the difference between 30 and 40 degrees (for example). HAD WE KNOWN THESE THINGS FROM THE PRESENTATION ON THE WEB, WE WOULD HAVE SEARCHED FOR A BETTER CLOCK-THERMOMETER. Weather Forecasting The weather forecast or pressure tendency is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure. In general, when the pressure increases, the weather improves (sunny to partly cloudy) and when the pressure decreases, the weather degrades (cloudy to rain). The weather forecast is an estimation or generalization of weather changes in the next 24 to 48 hours, and varies from location to location. The tendency is simply a tool for projecting weather conditions and is never to be relied upon as an accurate method to predict the weather. The barometer includes a manually set needle, which is used to mark the current measurement so a change can be seen. Barometric readings should be taken daily. Remember that the rate of change of barometric pressure is important in determining weather changes. You may want to take multiple readings each day during periods of unstable weather conditions.

These indoor/outdoor thermometer/clocks are exactly what we need for a new vinyl sided old house. I do wish the had a larger size like 24-36” diameter so you could actually see them from the distance. They are from Whitehall Products. Had an issue with the hands in one and they immediately shipped another “hands kit” which I was very impressed with. This traditional weather station is both a work of art and an instrument at home in any fine study, library, office, or upscale restaurant. The classic weather station measures barometric pressure (liquid). The antique weather station displays an air of quality and accuracy one would expect with a fine, handcrafted weather instrument from Ambient Weather. The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video -- and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body.

This weather glass comes with a cast iron filigree holder. "Thunder glass" was one of the earliest types of functioning barometers. Add color to the water to make this not only a functional but beautiful instrument.
