Niches have been used in homes for almost 2000 years, first made of white marble in Nero's home. Most niches are still white, and for many years were mostly made of plaster. Now that many modern architectural products are made of urethane, custom millwork and details such as recessed niches have become affordable for any home improvement project. Niches are distinctive architectural accents. Often used to display sculptures, vases, clocks, plants, and flowers, niches are beautiful and functional details that add value to any home interior. They are often used in main hallways, dining rooms, foyers, and staircases. An important aspect of a niche is its ability to concentrate or disperse light, so its placement should be based on the availability of light, either sunlight or interior lighting fixtures. Ceiling accent lights are often added as a compliment above a niche. Niches made of urethane can be easy to install for anyone, simply cut a hole in the drywall and place the niche inside. These niches will also require little maintenance in the future, and offer beauty and value to your home for decades to come. Ekena Millwork offers niches in varying heights, widths, and depths to fit the scale of your home.

Another win from Wayfair if what you are looking for is the effect of marble or stone- this is architectural foam so don’t be disappointed. As I will be painting the niches, I am quite satisfied. Julia. Sat Jan 31 2026

This arch is beautiful. It’s large so it could be overwhelming over a small door. It saved a lot of work and our contractor said it’s really good quality.. Debbie. Berwick, NS. Sat Feb 04 2023

I have just loved everything I've gotten here so far! This niche turned out simply amazing! I have been extremely happy with it! We have been renovating the home and this has been my number one place to come. I've only ever had to return a couple items (due to color), but everyone here has been so good about the returns. I definitely recommend this though if you're looking. Happy shopper here!. T.. TX. Fri Dec 18 2015

Beautiful! I put them in a doorway in my apartment. I mounted them with Command strips. I did have to put a smear of E6000 glue on the spot where the strips went and let that dry first as the edges that go against the wall are a little porous and the strips wouldn’t stick. They have been up for several days and they look great!. Melissa. NJ. Mon Jun 21 2021

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is an excellent material for millwork due to its durability, low maintenance, and resistance to moisture, rot, and insects. Unlike wood, PVC won’t warp, crack, or swell when exposed to humidity or extreme weather, making it ideal for both interior and exterior applications. It’s lightweight, easy to cut and install, and can be painted or left in its natural white finish. Additionally, PVC is a cost-effective alternative to wood, offering long-term savings by eliminating the need for frequent repairs or refinishing.

Flex trim beautifully completes radius or curved installation with authentic looking wood moulding and makes architectural challenges easy. It offers the beauty of wood, but will not rot, swell or deteriorate over time. It is an ideal solution for indoor and outdoor use. The versatility of installation options and being able to paint or gel stain gives it an edge over traditional moulding.

My husband and I are building a house and we the windows on the front have a round transom. We didn't add a transom above the door and we just felt the door needed something else. I searched a bunch of different websites and Wayfair was cheaper and had more options for sizing. The quality is fabulous. Not sure if we installed it correctly or not...the siding was already on the house so we just put it on top of siding...then we didn't have to worry about adding J-channel. The only negative was shipping...it really does take 3+ weeks to get it. This was my first item I bought off of Wayfair, I just wish they would have communicated it better that this was going to be later than expected.. Emily. Frederick, MD. Thu Jan 23 2020
