This is really an attractive lamp. We mounted it near a door on the sunniest side of our house. There is a choice of dimmer or brighter setting on the lamp, I suppose to modulate how long the battery charge will last. For us, this is excellent in the summer because of more sun and longer days. I'm finding that I'm less satisfied with it as a solution during the winter, not because of the lamp itself, but because our winter days are often excessively overcast and it gets dark early. These lanterns are beautiful! I got the bronze. They are well made with attention to detail. The instructions state to charge them for 6 hours. I received them at 3:45 pm. My apartment faces east, and the sun was already over my apartment building, no longer on my balcony or coming in any windows. I set them on the balcony receiving only daylight. At dark, they lit right up full power. So, either they were already charged, or the daylight was adequate for charging. I get only about 3 hours of sun on my balcony due to trees and the building east of mine being higher on a ridge and blocking sun at times , so they have never been charged for 6 hours straight. This is just stunning at night! It is made of a very delicate metal, and the dragonfly design is gorgeous. It looks like a jarred lantern, and its empty inside. I dont see a way to open it.
