If it is in the backyard where we knew they were going to get light from the sun. When they came on once it was dark, we realized that they were not as strong as we would prefer them to be. These solar lights are pretty cool! Not able to install outside yet so I tried them on the bathroom floor. I have to say that on the floor it is a much smaller imprint than on a wall. So they definitely will have a much greater impact installing them on the side of a fence/wall than using on steps.
