I purchased this for my mobility challenged ( tripaw ) cats. The spacing will allow them to safely climb without me worrying about falls as much. Yes it's expensive BUT .. the quality of the wood is exceptional. I am a little concerned the carpeting is very thin and it may become an issue with shredding- hopefully not! I will update this review in a few months on the durability of the carpet. We have a rescue and this tree is a hit with everyone. This has been a great addition to our cats’ furniture collection! The smalleryounger cat loves to sleep on the flower on top, which is made of something like memory foam, but a bit denser. I imagine it is somewhat self-heating and also helps to hold onto the heat from the window. My largest cat loves the middle level basket. She will curl up in it for hours and has since I took it out of the box. Her sister is terrified of the entire thing and avoids even being near it. I have no idea why. I picked it because it had 3 levels, and they are always together, but it has not appealed to her yet. Pros nice height, stable base, real woodstrong construction, removable basket liner pillows Cons Can be a bit wobbly with multiple large cats - though they have tried 2 in a single basket with no problems. This cat tree is sturdy! It was easy to assemble, besides initially lining up the base to the first post. I used the included wrench to "poke through" the holes to help line them up. It is a beautiful kitty tree. It is indeed not 'paded' at the top (besides rim), but seems soft enough for my kitty. My cat is too big to get on by himself (not as much space between basket bed and top of tree), but he doesn't mind, and spends hours on it after I place him there, lol. I've had this for several months and have unfortunately had to test out cleaning up the 'leaf' and the white cushions a few times due to some hairballs..but it was super easy to spot wash and air dry! I have not set it up yet as we are still renovating our cat room, but the parts are very good quality and look exactly like pictured. Although there are many parts, the directions make it easy to build. You just need to know where exactly on the walls they work and then they are easy to put up.
