I really like this sofa bed overall. It’s the perfect size for two smaller adults to sleep comfortably, and it’s a great option for a small apartment without taking up too much space. Good buy for the price. Nice fabric - soft, easy to clean and vacuum. It seems wider than 40". Easily seats 2 people or 1 person and 4 dogs! It is firmer than I like - am hoping the seat cushion will soften up a bit (I've had it for 4 days). There appears to be some kind of a brace or support running down the middle of the seat that causes you to slip off to the side a bit unless you're centered on it when sitting or reclining.
